About 20kms from the town of Bankura is another small town called Chatna. It's very much famous for the susunia hills. It's a good spot for the trekkers. On my same visit to Bankura, i went for susunia one day along my friends. we left at about 10 in the morning and took a private bus for chatna from where we enjoyed the rest of the journey to susunia on the top of a jeep....!!!!!!!! It was a thrilling journey for all of us.
We reached the base at about 11 o clock. Susunia Hill is a known archeological and fossil site. Fossil remains of lion, giraffe, hyaena and many other animal species have been discovered from areas around Susunia.

The Susunia hills |
There's also a rock carved narasimha or lion from which constant spring is flowing for 365 days. It's still unknown to the scientists that from where the water is coming from.

View from the top |
Anyways we started our trek at about 1130 am. Their were a total of three hills and the first one was neither too high and nor there was dense forest. But still we needed a break after climbing the first one.
|
Towards the second one |
But yes the second was a tough one to climb and a bit difficult too. We started with the next one. And now the dense forest started and it was a bit higher too than the first one. We were at the base of the second one when rain started but it was for a few minutes only. But a few minutes rain would prove the mountainous climbings very dangerous as the path became slippery and difficult too. The long-stemmed trees helped us a lot here. after taking on the 2nd peak we were so tired that we decided to climb down directly from the second peak.

while coming down |
But it was a big mistake which we later came to know. We can't find any proper way to come down and used complete forest path. It was very steep and here also the trees helped us a lot. Now the whether was very hot....!!! And as we took the wrong forest path, naturally we lost our way. We were in between two hills, now which were the two we cant recognize.

LOST!!! |
We started removing the shrubs which came blocking on our way down with some long sticks. The path was so steep that once we start running down,it's difficult to stop then. Somehow we managed our way down but still it was an unknown place. Even a single person cannot be seen here.

No one's there |

Finally came down!! |
W e started walking then...but where to walk we did'nt know. But we kept walking and walking. After a hour of constant walking we saw some village woodcutters and we felt releif to some extent. We asked them to guide us to the Susunia base and they told us the direction where to walk and said that it would take another hour or so...Now there was another problem .....WATER!! we needed water. Not a single sign of water can be seen there. And so we headed for a local village. Again we walked and walked but not a single sign of water. after walking few kilometers from where we started we came to know that we actually landed on the backside of the hill. A nd from the backside we came to the front of the third hill. It meant that now again atleast an hour we needed to reach the main bus stand from where we started the trek. But this time we found a village where we drank water. And now we felt good to some extent. The villagers gave us an idea of a shortcut through the fields and we took that road to reach the base of Susunia.

Backside of the hills |
And at last we did it after having an continuous walk of about 3 hrs. We walked from the backside of the third hill to the front of the first one!! But still we were happy that we did it. And this was surely one of my best breakouts that i can never forget!!
